Dietetic technicians may specialize in a particular area such as nutritional care or food service management. If you want to enter a hospital dietetic technician program, then you should have a high school diploma or the equivalent. Becoming a dietetic technician requires obtaining an associate degree from an accredited university that is approved by the American Dietetic Association. These programs usually include classroom study and 450 hours of supervised practice experience. After completion of the program individuals must pass a test called the Registration Examination for Dietetic Technicians.

In addition, 50 hours of continuing education hours must be completed every 5 years.
